If you’ve seen the message “You’re sharing your connection over the 5GHz band” when using Mobile Hotspot on Windows 10, you’re not alone.
This issue often prevents older devices from connecting to your Wi-Fi hotspot because many phones and laptops only support the 2.4GHz band.
Fortunately, switching your network band from 5GHz to 2.4GHz is a simple fix that restores compatibility and ensures a stable internet connection for all your devices.
Open the Mobile Hotspot Settings
From the left sidebar, click on Mobile hotspot.
You’ll see your hotspot settings, including the network name (SSID), password, and the network band currently in use.
Under the “Network name, password, and band” section, click on the Edit button.
This allows you to modify the hotspot configuration.

A new window will appear.
Find the option labeled Network band, click the drop-down menu, and select 2.4 GHz instead of 5 GHz.

Then click Save to apply the new settings.

After saving the changes, turn off your Mobile Hotspot, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on.
Your connection will now broadcast over the 2.4GHz band, allowing more devices to connect easily.
By switching your Windows 10 Mobile Hotspot from 5GHz to 2.4GHz, you make your shared connection compatible with a wider range of devices.
The 2.4GHz band also offers better range and stability, especially in environments with many walls or obstacles.
