If you spend long hours browsing the web, you’ve probably noticed how bright white pages can strain your eyes especially at night.
Thankfully, Google Chrome allows you to enable Dark Mode for every website using a free extension called Dark Reader.
This easy guide will show you how to install and activate Dark Reader so you can enjoy a smooth, eye-friendly browsing experience on any website.
First, open the Google Chrome browser on your computer.
Next, click the three dots (⋮) icon located at the top-right corner of Chrome.

From the dropdown menu, hover over “Extensions”. Inside the Extensions page, look for a small link that says “Visit Chrome Web Store” on the left panel and click it.
This will open the official Chrome Web Store where you can find and install trusted extensions.

In the Chrome Web Store’s search bar, type “Dark Reader” and press Enter.
You’ll see several results, but make sure to select the official Dark Reader extension

Click on the Dark Reader extension result, then press the “Add to Chrome” button.

When a pop-up appears, click “Add Extension.”
Chrome will download and install Dark Reader automatically within a few seconds.

After installation, click the Extensions icon at the top-right of Chrome. Then find Dark Reader in the list and pin it for easier access.

Finally, click the Dark Reader icon and toggle the switch ON to enable dark mode for all websites instantly.

You’ve successfully turned every website into dark mode on Google Chrome!
The Dark Reader extension automatically inverts bright colors and creates a comfortable dark background that’s easier on your eyes.
For the best experience, you can adjust brightness, contrast, and even schedule dark mode for nighttime browsing.
